Christopher Paolini’s Fanmail

Posted in Oddly... by Elliott Back on February 11th, 2007.

Under the subject of “a curious imagination, but expansive!!” I received the following fanmail for Christopher Paolini, the child author of fantasy novels Eragon and Eldest.

Dear Mr. Paolini,

(if that’s ok, because to some it bothers them so i don’t know). As your usual fan mail starts: Your and amazing writer your imagination is expansive (farther than Russia to Puerto Rico) it’s extremely impressive how ever you write it down. Anyway to the point, I haven’t visited the states but in a few months I’m moving to AZ from P. R. I’m not trying seduce or anything but how do you learn more about the ancient creatures because you describe them as if you were literally on the landscapes of Oromis and Gleadr’s home and the training’s with Eragon and Saphira but yet you can’t compare it to anything so I don’t know how it looks like. To be honest reading your books are the only antidote to the situations that I’m in my life now. To seduce, I meant was to ask you where you get your inspiration from I know what you’ve said was your home in Montana but that’s your own imagination, places you’ve seen, etc… although i would desperately would like to know I won’t ask, plus that really personal so I will not ask. I would like to ask you that when you read this mail I’ve sent you please don’t post on any web or anything dealing within the computer (or outside)

sincerely, Grace from P. R

p.s.if ur a person who writes tragically i would encounter you to know that im of an age u’ll never guess

I would like to know your email

  2. Madysen says:

Wait, you send letters back and forth to Chris? Aw, you have to let me know his address! Not so I can raid him or anything, but I have written a novel (urban fantasy) and I’ve sent a query letter out already, so I’m still waiting. I’m only fourteen, so I’d love his advice and yours too! Just in case it don’t show, my email is roses_of_the_blood@yahoo.com.

Dear Christopher Paolini. i have read half you book and I IS EXTREMLY BAD i dont know maybe it gets better but it SUCK SO PLEASE DONT MAKE ANY MORE BOOKs

    • MaKNa says:

      you shut up
      EXTREMELY BAD?
      do me a favor!
write a book, and prove to us that u’r able, and make it the best seller, like any other books such as Harry Potter. proof it to us, and then speak!
      Huh!

      • paul says:

you r a ******. he is the best writer ever.

        • Mark says:

No. Paolini is a disgrace to literature. One does not need to be a writer to know when one is bad; need an analogy? Does one need to be a gardener to know when crops are dead? Does one need to be a chef to know when one has produced poor food?

          • reese says:

wow dude, why the hell are you here if you dont like the books?lots of people dot like them but at least they are mature enough not to come flame the author.

Besides, the way to know a book is bad is for it to showw up in a schools forced summer reading list, and paolini hasn’t gone there nor will he ever

paolini is one of the best damn things that ever happned to literature

      • Sully says:

        Shut Up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
        dONT BE A *******.
        Christoper Paolini is the BEST!!
He wrote the best 3 books I EVER read.
I cant wait for the 4th one to come out.

    • Ben says:

I completely agree with your statement. All Paolini did was change some names from LOTR, throw in the plot from Star Wars, and look a super, awesome, amazing book appeared. Just kidding, all you people should try reading books by a real author such as Terry Goodkind. Compared to Goodkind, Paolini doesn’t have shred of talent.

      • Arya says:

        YOU SUCK YOU STUPID LOSERS!
you’re just jealous because Terry Goodkind’s books are stupid. GO TO HELL YOU ******* go back to elementary and learn how to READ!

      • Nikita says:

You people are dipshits. Christopher Paolini is one of the best authors EVER. F’n retards. Though I agree that Terry Goodkind is pretty good.

      • reese says:

if he’s so great then why the hell havent i heard of him >.> dumbass…

    • sam says:

i dunno wat this guys on about. i just finished the 3rd book yesterday and it rocks! i read it in like 2 weeks easy im craving the next 1. christopher paolini if you read this dont listen 2 any1 who says that you write bad books. pls make the next 1 good, thanks 4 givin me somthing extra 2 do in my life

  5. kiki says:

DONT LISTEN TO THE ABOVE STATEMENT

  6. joe fowler says:

I think I speak for a lot of people when i say: hurry it up on the 3rd book
d@m^ it. some times in late or mid 2007 would be ideal Im starting to think your slacking off. I really don’t want to wate until mid 08 for a book.
Harry potter 7 already took care of that need. The amount of time your taking it better be the best published work you have ever written.
    Thanks for listening.
    your eternal fan,

  9. Kelly says:

YES, please hurry up and finish the 3rd book. i just finished the 2nd and already read the 1st. without your books to read i am bored and your books are really good. i do speak for all of your fans when i say hurry up. you’ve had plenty of time to write it and it comes out September 23, 2008! i think if u wrote faster u could finish by mid April if not early May. PLEASE hurry up with writing the 3rd book!!!

  10. Victoris says:

Well, I’m beginning to think that the people of america’s online population are becoming more and more illiterate. It’s almost insulting, especially to a freshman like myself. Either way, everyone, I think the reason no one has Christopher’s email address is because he doesn’t want a constant flow of emails with remarkably unintelligent Subjects and squealing fan girls… The poor man has enough to do without having to worry about checking his emails constantly, don’t you think?

Patience is a key to good writing and building up anticipation for an upcoming event, you should try it sometime.

My. Paolini, I would also like to make a brief address to you, It was a pleasure to read your work and I am looking forward to the completion of your trilogy. Work well and keep safe.

    Good night!

  11. HI Christopher Paolini I am your graetest fan ever I am ten years old and have read all the books that have come out in the inheritance seires ERAGON and ELDEST are great books I cannot wait for books 3 and 4 . Best of luck on them.

I would like to know when you will complete it. I think for you to fit everything in, it would need to be twice as long as the second. I also write books, but I have

  14. bob alexteninion says:

I dont think that the description of the Raz’ack in the book fit the Raz’ak in the Eragon moive. Chris describes them as black skin, a beak like nose, and strong, and in the movie theyre relativly short, have bugs crawling over them, and have no beak like nose…reply plz

  15. trevor says:

i personally think that the eragon movie was horrible compared to the book.
    just a thought.

    thanx.

  16. Marianne says:

Stop pestering the man! You can’t just tell someone to “hurry up” with a book, it really takes a long time to perfect; don’t you know that? Take as long as you want with the rest of the books, Mr. Paolini…just don’t rush them, like JK Rowling did with her last book! Wow, that was really bad…
Gosh…anyways, I didn’t think the movie was NEARLY as good as the book. Too rushed…Murtagh’s “betrayal” wasn’t nearly potent enough. If I were you, I’d check out the history of the director BEFORE I let someone get their hands on my novel.
I, of course, would like to know your email so I can ask you some questions concerning how you dealt with writing books. Did you go to college? That seems kind of hard to me, writing a series and dealing with college at the same time. I myself am a sophomore and nearly completed with the first draft of my first novel, though I may have to cut it short and add more books to the series…too many pages! But if you do not want your email out to the public, I understand that; there’s the privacy issue, and all.

  17. There is a different reason I wish to know his e-mail. So that I may ask him for advice. He was young when he wrote his first book, Eragon, and now I, also still in my teens, wish to pursue a career in the art of book-writing. Now, I don’t know if Christopher Paolini personally checks this website every once in a while, but if he does, please email me at deartsangurl@yahoo.com.

    Thank You,

    Kimiko

    • Shur'tugal says:

I think that you should all just leave him alone. I mean the poor man has enough to think about. He needs to concentrate on his work and you just pushing him is’nt making it easier. I think he is doing a wonderful job and is an amazing writer.

  18. trevor says:

    i have something else…
    again….
my sister like the 2 above is writing a book (series)
shes just like writing notes. she already has lots but still has a long way to go.
so if you have anything to say or advice for her please answer back. thanx

  20. Nikhil says:

    Dear, Mr Paolini

I just wanted to know whether or not the second in the series Eldest was going to be made into a movie because i would love it to made into a movie beacuse the first movie just was amazing. Reading the second book indicates to me that the second book will be just as good if not better.

    Dear Chris,

I had a feeling of becoming a good fantasy writer someday like Tolkien, Lewis, Rowling, Brown and YOU.. I’ll be glad if you will be my personal critic. I love your works though I noticed few mistakes but it’s okay. That cannot be avoided, really.

  22. DaMo says:

hey if anyone nows chrises e-mail can they please e-mail it to me on d_d121@hotmail.com. i think his book is mint as and i want to try to write my own book one day. oh and no one listen to the 3rd comment above me because durza does not rock for gods sakes he helped capture saphiras egg and im glad eragon owned him

  23. jacob says:

Hello Chris, i love your books, i read the comment that said that your books were “extremely bad” i think that person was just jelouis. SOOOOO i just wanted to say that I really enjoyed reading eragon and eldest and can’t wait for your new book to come out. I really do hope that they can come back with a great movie after the first movie which wasn’t very good compared to your books. I started reading eragon and eldest when i was 12 years old and have read it 10 times since beginning of 2007. I hope that even after eragon the movie the movie people can come back and make a great movie like it should be. O yeah and in the first movie how did eragon all of a sudden know some many words in the acient language?

  24. Mr. bored says:

u know what, the movie sucked ****. for sure. i didnt watch it but i dont want to…. o but i still ur books…..u know what i wud hate if were famous? if some people just talked about how they are like you, or how they wud want ur advice, or how they wud like to contact u, or especcially how they love ur book. like i did….and all the other people….NOTE TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE COMMENTING: SERIOUSLY, LEAVE A NOTE ONLY TO CRITICIZE, NOT TO SAY HOW LOVE THIS BOOK OR ANOTHER.

  25. Mikey says:

    Dear Christopher Paolini,

I love your books. They are so awsome. Don’t listen to some other people. Take all the time you need to complete your trilogy, but still, I cannot wait until the third book, Empire, is out. I really need a good book to read. I think my reading teacher is kind of annoyed at me. I’m giving her a lot of letters to write back for reading workshop. I think i’m a nerd. Again, I can’t wait for the next book to be done and I would be so psyched if you were doing book signing near where I live when the trilogy is completed(not happaning).Until then, Mor’rant lifa unin hjarta onr

Thank you for reading,(if i’m not so boring that you finnish it)

  26. becky says:

    dear christopher paolini,
your books are truely phenamonal (i spelled that wrong), anyway i loved the book Eragon, and loved Eldest just as much. i’m in the seventh grade, and i have always loved to read, especially fantasy. my fav. series is ultimately harry potter, but this series is following closely. i just submitted my comments, but, i forgot sumthing in the Leave a Reply section, so it erased the whole thing. i just want to say that it was my pleasure reading your stupendous series and i look forward very much to reading your next two books, hoping they are even better than the last two. Murtagh’s and the Twin’s betrayals shook me greatly for murtagh was just starting to gain my trust as well. the languages used in these books, tie them together wonderfully, and the romance adds even another twist to the series. I felt like i was in the story, fighting alongside Eragon and Saphira, and sailing among the deep waters with the villagers and Roran. i’ve always been able to connect with characters very well, but with your stories i can relate much better than most. i hope you have the best of luck writing your books, and i hope not to rush you though i would love to read your books as soon as possible.

i enjoy your books and hope your new ones are even better than the first. for you finished Eragon at fifteen, publishing somewhat soon after. you have proved to be an inspirational influence for those wishing to create there own books, such as me, and many others. for as soon as i get an idea for a book, i read another book and get another idea, taking away the last. let the books you next do inspire young writers to be greater writers in the future so that no one become bored with the present ideas of the old writers, for their not as new and fresh(i hope i’m not speaking too harshly, sumtimes, they write even better than their last, but not always).
    best of luck,
    becky
Atra esterni ono thelduin, Un du evarinya ono varda, good luck, and have fun writing your new books. i can’t wait to read them.

  28. Dear Christopher Paolini,

I believe that some of us would like it if you made a complete dictionary of the ancient language. Also, this may sound ridiculous, but is Angela the god eragon meets in book three?

  29. Sydney says:

    Dear fellow visitors,

Like the other Chistopher Paolini discussions created by Elliottback, this is not a site created by Christopher Paolini and somehow I doubt that he has even been here (though his sister, Angela, has!!)
I hate to burst your bubble and dash your hopes, but it is also very unlikely that you will ever get to know his email address: the last thing he probably wants is fanmail!
Yes, I agree. The ERAGON movie was horrible compared to the book. But many readers have been led to the book through the movie; that’s probably the movie’s one success: an excellent way of advertising.

Here is some advice on writing books getting a book published: (please note that the word ‘advice’ does not mean that I am telling you what to do, or that I am even presuming to be correct. I’m just trying to help)
    1. Detail is a major part of any book. An ‘okay’ writer writes with only two or three senses. A genius writes with all five.
    2. A large vocabulary is required, of course, to elegantly and properly express your thoughts.
    3. Remember: What makes the book appealing to readers is when the characters become real to them. Characters are not just a name on a page. They have to be actual people with individual personalities. Characters are complex.
    4. Your plot has to be thought out and everything that happens has to be realistic and logical. Arya didn’t just happen to send a dragon egg to Carvahall and Eragon did not happen to find it. There was a reason for it. Too many coincidenses in a book are unrealistic and make the readers say, “Yeah right! This is sooo cheesy!” You don’t want that, trust me.
    5. No big company is going to publish your book if you do not have an agent.
    6. No large bookstore is going to agree to buy your books if you do not have a distributor and they cannot be assured that it will be possible to return the books if they don’t sell.
I suggest self-publishing, though it takes more work and quite a bit of money.
Want to know more about publishing?

    Hope this helps!

    Dear Christopher,
My sister and I consider you to be an excellent author, and are looking forward to Brisingr!

My friend’s grandmother knew Bill Hooks, a friend of Jane Yolen, and my aunt says you visited the school she works at in Naperville, Illinois.

I am thirteen, and I have been writing my book since I was ten. I plan on writing many books on the subjects of dragons, pirates, vampires, aliens, racism, history and the challenges of adolescent life.

I try to be as creative as I can with my writing, and I am loosely basing (but not copying) my book on the Inheritance cycle so I can get a feel for how great literature is written.

Also, I experience writer’s block every now and then. Have any tips?

    My best regards,
    Danny

  31. Alex Myers says:

Chris, If you are reading this – If it is Angela reading please tell him – then I’d like to let you know that you’ve inspired me to create my own book which is in progress, “Legend of the Golden Dragon” and I thank you for awakening the fantasy within me! If you ever get the chance, I would apprechiate the help and get some ideas. Although I know you must be busy writing your third book, “Brisingr” I’d like it if you could contact me at alexsm1991@yahoo.com for some ideas. I know that you may not reply, but if anyone in your family like Angela gets that chance, let him know that hes also my greatest and most faviorate author of all time. One last thing: Eka celobra ono. And may your swords stay sharp!

  32. David says:

I would like his e-mail so I could ask his honest opinion about that horrible movie that was published that used the name of his amazing book. Seriously? What was up with that movie Chris? That sucked… I was almost thinking of buying a copy to burn it after walking out of theaters. It was so pathetically untrue to the books it was saddening.*sarcasm on* But who cares, right?! You make money! *sarcasm off*. Just please, make a public statement about this… I need to know that you’re still dedicated to your astounding series.

    Sincerely, David

    Dear mr. Paolini,

Hello! I wanted to know something about the book Brisingr..
Well.. You know the part when The Varden gets attacked when Eragon is busy preparing the wedding for Roran? Well the soldiers of Galbartorix had no pain. So when u attacked them they wouldnt die. I didnt really like that. Because.. It doesnt give a real feeling of a battle…. It is more like a fake thing. It is hard to explain.. I think you are the best author in the world but does kind of things, like the soldiers with no pain.. dont put does kind of things in the following books. I dont mean to be the boss about how you write but i am just giving some advice.

  41. BEN says:

    hey,

I realize that you probably don’t read these, and that this is rather pointless. BUt i’m really ticked off. Not that I don’t love your books. They are amazingly creative and well written, and I can never put them down. But I waited two years for the third book to come out, thinking it was going to be the final one (considering that the word trilogy MEANS THREE). I am fourteen now, and I do not want to be reading about dragons, elves and magic spells when I am 16 years old. Mr. Paolini, I am a large, muscular guy, but I am still scared about reading your books in grade ELEVEN!! I was really mad when I found out that the third wasn’t the final one, and I LOVE long books, so in my opinion, you should have made the third really long, Because now I’m really not looking foreward to waiting another two years for the FOURTH book to come out. You didn’t even need the entire Feinster seige at the end of Brisingr. You just put it in because you needed more excitement in the book. Feinster was rarely mentioned before the third book, and you made it so much more momentous than it needed to be. All your books end in battles and the third one should have been the last. If you care to notice, you will see all trilogies follow the same system: first battle, good guys barely win, second battle, its a tie, and third battle is huge and momentous. But you broke the system! The first battle was GREAT, second battle was GREAT and dramatic, and the third battle sucked *** monkeys!!! Not that it wasnt exciting but its no way to end a book that wont have a sequel for two years!! I know there isn’t anything you can really do about it now. But HURRY, HURRY, HURRY on the fourth book! Oh and by the way, I think that your explanation of Galbatorix’s power wasn’t that good. I think that there should have been a big surprise about Galbatorix. We don’t ever see or talk to or communicate in any way with Galbatorix which makes us think that something is up, and maybe there is a bigger mystery going on. But why i ask you, didn’t Galbatorix fly out of Uru baen and slaughter all the Varden when is clearly all powerful? It will be hard for you to finish the fourth book with all the strings tied off, and your readers satisfied. But if you are going ot make us wait anohter two years. It had better be REALLY REALLY good. Well, on the off chance you do read these, thanks for reading my entry. Otherwise, whatever.

eagerly awaiting the fourth book in the TRILOGY (ya liar)

  47. Jordan says:

    Hey chris,
started writing a book and it has a fantasy theme to it. Dragons play a massive role in the magic of the book. I love the way that through all of your books dragons have been more than just steeds but beings, and beings that are smarter than most and feared by all for more than just fire. Wondering if you had any thoughts on what route I should take with my book if I sent you a short outline. You can email me at LordJiarda17@hotmail.com or my other email that I left for this reply.

  48. Holly says:

    Hey,
this is the first time i have been on this website, but i read most of them comments. Ben, that really long one you wrote on the 29th of october? i totally agree with you. Im fourteen aswell and absolutely love the inheritance books, but i must admit that even i am getting a little bit over the wait. Especially with the last book. I thought it was FANTASTIC and finished it within the day, but now i have to wait for another few years for the last one to come out. My only consolation is discussing it with my sister and interested friends.
I really hope that book four wont take as long to come around as Brisingr did, for both my sake and the sake of my sister. i am starting to get a little bit over listening to her version of events (sorry sez lol). HURRY! If, by some wild chance you do actually read this comment Paolini (snort ‘yeh right) can you please give a rough estimate of when the next book is coming out? Please?
    Thanks

hello, I am Helena and I like Eragon very, very, very much. In the begin as I saw the book Eragon I thought that it was something about dragons and I was right. I like dragons a lot and know a lot about them. I am writing a book myself but it is very hard to start one. (It is very hard though). I cannot wait to see Eragon in the cinemas again. And I cannot wait to read Brisingr!!!! It is in Switzerland very expensive in the beginning and I really like to read it. I am so exited to read and see the fourth book of Eragon. Mr. Christopher Paolini, a lot of compliments to your books!!!! There are sooooooo great and full of fantasy that I like to dream of!! Specially Saphira and Eragon together. Please if you want to contact me; Email under this; budopelaene2000@vtxmail.ch

Thank you very much H.A.V Makkink

My name is Alan. I’m 15 years old and I’m writing a novel along the same lines as Mr. Paolini’s books, although I’m not using a Dragon Rider, Shade, or a king that won’t leave his own castle and is getting more and more powerful with every passing year. It’s more of a cross between J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings” books. If anyone knows how Imight be able to contact Mr. Paolini, I would greatly appreciate your help. If you would like, you could also provide me with any advice or tips that would contribute to the making of my novel. Anyone whose ideas I use will be recognized in the dedication of my novel by name. In other words, if I use any of your ideas, I will mention your full name, first and last, in my dedication. Any who reply may contact me by email or simply by posting an answer on this website. You can email me at Bigal561@gmail.com or at Bigal369@yahoo.com

    Thank You.

  56. Alan says:

Oh, and one more thing: listen to Marianne. Leave Mr. Paolini alone. And stop posting insults about him and his books. Whatever you say is your own opinion, and you are entitled it, but that doesn’t mean that you should publicly insult someone just because you don’t like their books.

  75. Alex says:

    Dear Mr. Paolini,

As it has probably been mentioned to you millions of time by millions of other people, you are inspirational. Two years ago, I read your book and was amazed (and I still am by how fantastic your characters are, not to mention the whole idea of Alagaesia itself). It was the first book I was able to read cover to cover. Currently, I have written three books (none published to the public) and now I am working on seven other stories. I am proud to say that I never would have written any form of literature before reading Eragon and Eldest. Thank you for showing young readers, like me, how wonderful it is to use their minds to create their own worlds and adventures. Congrats on your recent success with your new book, Brisingr, and may you have a hundred more number one best sellers.

    Your devoted fan,

    Alejandra Ruiz

  76. Alex says:

Yeah. The chapter where Arya refuses Eragon's purposal is a bit blurry to me. It might be me, but I never read anywhere in the book if she spoke in the Ancient Languege, or in another language. But Paolini probably did that on purpose just to keep people wondering.

  77. ali says:

i am a big fan of yours mr paolini, im 13 and have read the inheritence series, except for your last book.
if you could, can you tell me the name of the next story you will make???

SO MR.PAOLINI U rock!!!

  84. Anna says:

Hi! I am Anna! I love his books. Everyone thinks i am a total bookworm and i read A LOT so i know what i am talking about. One of the things i think was the biggest acomplishment of The Inheritence Cycle was the depth in each character. You know Eragon as well as your friend. He doesn't make Eragon gloaty, like a huge hero, but a farmer who is thrust apon a huge responsibility. I hope to become a best-selling author and broadcast journalist. Watch for me on Good Morning America in 20 years!

  85. Anonymus says:

You're a jerk! His books are well planned and carefully layed out. the only reson that you didn't like it is because you have the comprehension skills of a rat!

  86. MorgiMD says:

I totally agree to Victoris' statment above. I am a very literate person, and have spent 2 hours typing him an email, but It doesn't seem to be online. I plan to send it to him as a letter, become good friends with him, and then get his email from there if he so chooses.

    Paolini-finiarel,
You are my favorite author and hope to talk to you soon!

  87. Roran says:

  95. Shur'tugal says:

i have a feeling that most of you peaople are just trying to get his e-mail, and like one of the peaople said maybe he is trying to keep it secret so that he is’nt flooded with emails. You say you want him to keep writing his books and to hurry up but if you got his email he would be too busy answering them to work so just leave him alone.

  96. Liina Laind says:

I read the first book and couldn’t put it down. The second was good but I didn’t like the fact that it retold alot of the story from the first book.

The third book was almost a waste of time to read as I skipped most it. Part of being a reader is the ability to use ones imagination. In book 3 he retold the storys in both 1 and 2
I felt like he thought the reader was too dumb to remember what had happened in the past so had to be reminded with several pages of detail, where as, only a couple of lines would have been plenty. Book 3 could have been a third of the size and, in being so, would have been much more tantilizing.
The part of the meeting of the dawarves and the sword making were also too detailed.
I think the only reason he wrote a forth book was go get more money.

  97. A.J says:

    Dear Christopher Paolini

    hurry up

BTW everyone, the vault is in the middle of the desert at the top of the mountain, clearyl the best place to put it if you want a long arduous adventure

PS. how were you able to BEAR the movie, it sucks that you had to be polite and say it was good, but you should have told them as soon as they finished the script that they irreparably ruined their ability to make a sequel

  104. Amanda K F says:

    Dear Christopher,
Hi! I’m a writer. I’m writing my first book. Do you think you could give me some pointer’s? I love your books, their great. I’ve read Eragon, Eldest, and Brisingr. Great job! You are one of the best authors I’ve ever read! Your books rock!

    Love Ya!

  105. K Sheridan says:

    dear mr paolini

can you please hurry with the final installment of your series before you lose fans many other books have made faster and entire series waas made between eldest and brisinger your books are amazing and we can wait to read it

    • fuego says:

KS, for real? lose fans? The books keep getting better and better! I read Eldest and Brisingr both within the past few weeks and of course I can’t wait for the 4th to come out! However, he’s going to finish the 4th book when he’s finished with it, and I don’t think insulting his pace and threatening that he will lose fans is the way to treat someone whose books you think are amazing. I too would love to know when the fourth book is going to come out!

  106. sarah says:
